Choose colour by undertone, contrast, and upkeep
A nail colour does not have to match the skin, but its undertone changes how it reads. Blue-reds, cool pinks, and lilacs sit clearly against warm skin, while coral, olive, and warm nude shades create a softer transition. Neutral undertones can usually move between both groups.
Opacity also affects maintenance. Sheer pink, nude, and milky white soften the regrowth line and are forgiving between appointments. Black, red, and other opaque shades give stronger contrast, but chips and cuticle growth appear sooner. Compare a swatch in daylight before choosing a full set.
What each one means
- Pink
- From milky nude-pink to hot fuchsia. The most searched nail colour, by a wide margin.
- Black
- Glossy, matte or sheer. Reads sharp on short square and almond alike.
- White
- The base of every French tip, and a look on its own in milky and micro finishes.
- Red
- Classic red, cherry, burgundy. The one colour that suits every shape.
- Blue
- Navy, sky, and the cat-eye blues that shift in the light.
- Purple
- Lilac through deep plum: the underrated seasonal neutral.
- Green
- Sage, olive, emerald. Reads expensive on almond shapes.
- Nude
- Matched to your skin tone, not to a single beige. Longest-wearing as it grows out.
